Dhupguri election result 2026: BJP's Naresh Chandra Roy defeated TMC's Dr. Nirmal Chandra Roy by 38,550 votes

In West Bengal’s Dhupguri (SC) seat, BJP candiate Naresh Chandra Roy defeated TMC candidate Dr. Nirmal Chandra Roy by 38,550 votes. Naresh Chandra won by securing 1,34,798 votes while Nirmal Roy got 96,248 votes. Dhupguri (SC) is a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, situated in the Dooars region of north Bengal with a mix of semi-urban and rural areas. In 2026, the candidates include Dr. Nirmal Chandra Roy of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Naresh Chandra Roy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Harish Chandra Roy of the Congress.In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the constituency was won by Bishnu Pada Ray of the BJP by a narrow margin of 3,948 votes over the TMC, highlighting a sharply divided voter base. Following the death of the sitting MLA, a by-election was held in 2023, which was won by Nirmal Chandra Roy of the TMC, shifting the constituency back to the ruling party.Agriculture, small businesses, and tea garden-linked livelihoods contribute significantly to the local economy. Key issues revolve around infrastructure, employment, and agrarian concerns. Residents frequently raise demands for better roads, drainage systems, drinking water supply, and reliable electricity. Farmers and agricultural workers emphasise the need for improved irrigation, crop support, and protection from flood-related damage.The constituency went to polls on April 23, as part of Phase 1. Jalpaiguri district recorded a voter turnout of 94.76%.
