Gurgaon traffic police campaign bags silver medal

GURGAON: The campaign “challan nahi salam milega” of Gurgaon traffic police has been conferred with the SKOCH Silver medal award. The said drive also known as “Drive Right, Shine bright” was initiated by DCP Traffic Rajesh Mohan last year following which police honoured five traffic heroes, who strictly followed traffic rules and were never challaned; each month. The award was received by the DCP in a special ceremony held last week at India Habitat Centre in Delhi. The drive aimed at encouraging the road users to follow the traffic rules in order to refrain road accidents. “This initiative represents a dramatic shift from fear-based policing towards positive engagement. 31 responsible citizens were publicly honoured through official recognition letters. This approach encourages safe driving behaviour and demonstrates the power of positive reinforcement in building a safer community”, DCP Rajesh Mohan said. Under this 825 traffic marshals or the community guardians were also appointed to assist traffic police in awareness campaigns and to regulate traffic at peak hours. The campaign also included transparent fines system through which police shared the challan figures on its social media platforms. Police also did 732 awareness programmes under this campaign.
