Punjabi singer-poet Satinder Sartaaj is currently riding high on the success of ‘Jaiye Sajana’ from ‘Dhurandhar 2’, which has been dominating playlists and social media trends. Despite the widespread attention, the artiste remains unfazed by the fame, choosing instead to stay rooted in his craft while balancing Bollywood projects with his independent musical journey.Speaking with Hindustan Times, he credited the film’s team for the song’s popularity. “Ab woh toh hai… isko aab Itefaaq kahiye, meri khushkismati ya niyamat kahiye… Yeh khaas taur par unki team ko credit jata hai. Sara sehra film ke crew ko jata hai hai humara toh bas naam lag gaya hai (Well, you can call it a coincidence, my good fortune, or a blessing… the credit truly goes to their team. All the praise belongs to the film crew; we just happen to be associated with the song),” he said with a smile. He further added, “Dekhiye main zindagi mein kuch expect nahi karta, jab aap chhodh dete ho raza mein toh barkat zyada hoti hai (I don’t expect much from life. When you surrender and accept things as they come, the blessings increase).” Despite the growing buzz around ‘Jaiye Sajana’, Sartaaj has already moved ahead, focusing on his ongoing India tour and upcoming music. He prefers staying immersed in his art rather than tracking fame or reactions.
Satinder Sartaaj’s take on a career in Bollywood
The singer made it clear that Hindi films are not his only goal. “Yes, that’s true… Sirf Bollywood hi aim nahi hai. Doosre kaam pe bhi focus hai (Yes, that’s true… Bollywood is not my only aim. I am focusing on other work as well),” he shared.Talking about future releases, he said, “Abhi toh main concerts and tours mein hi busy hun. Abhi aur gaane aayenge Bollywood mein mere, but woh sab maine pehle hi record karke rakhe hue hai. Release abhi honge. (Right now, I am busy with concerts and tours. More Bollywood songs of mine will release soon, but I have already recorded them earlier).”He added that he doesn’t even track his releases closely: “I don’t keep a track of when the song will be out… there are times when I get to know about my song only after it releases.” Recalling an instance, he said, “Jab ‘Rang’ ‘Sky Force’ se release hua, main Hyderabad mein perform kar raha tha, aur mujhe baad mein pata chala(When ‘Rang’ from ‘Sky Force’ released, I was performing in Hyderabad and only found out about it later).”
Satinder Sartaaj’s legacy of independent music
Known for songs like ‘Sai’, ‘Sajjan Raazi’, ‘Udaarian’, ‘Rutba’, ‘Tere Bina Na Guzara E’, and ‘Ikko – Mikke’, Sartaaj continues to balance commercial and independent music effortlessly. “Mushkil nahi hai… You just have to be content with your inner self as a creative human being. If that is there, it is not tough at all… it just happens very naturally and organically(It’s not difficult… you just need to feel content within yourself as a creative person. If that’s in place, everything flows naturally),” he explained.Despite the commercial success of ‘Dhurandhar 2’, Sartaaj chose to perform at a Sufi festival, reflecting his artistic priorities. “The audience who comes to a Sufi festival is very different from those at large stadium shows… it is interesting for me to adapt and perform according to the space,” he concluded.
