Jyeshtha Purnima 2026: Do’s and don’ts to follow while observing fast

According to Hindu calendar, Jyeshtha month occurs during May or June, when the hot summer at its peak. Jyeshtha means the eldest of all that’s why this Purnima tithi is considered as one of the most prominent Purnima’s of the year. The day is also known as Full Moon. This is the powerful time period to seek spiritual growth, abundance, money, wealth, luxury and introspection. The day holds an immense religious and spiritual significance and devotees perform various puja rituals to appease Lord Vishnu and Moon God. The day is also celebrated as Vat Purnima, when all the married women observe fast for the well being and longevity of their husbands. People offer their prayers, perform fast and get involved in charitable deeds. There are certain guidelines that people should follow on Jyeshtha Purnima:

Here are the following do’s and don’ts you should follow on Jyeshtha Purnima:

1. Observe fast

The day is considered highly auspicious to honor Lord Satyanarayan, another form of Lord Visnnu. Devotees observe the fast from sunrise till sunset and perform puja to seek blessings.

2. Perform Satyanarayan Puja

As we already explained that devotees perform puja to Lord Satyanarayan so they perform Satyanarayan puja in which they recite Satayanarayan vrat katha and complete the puja rituals with aarti.

3. Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi

Perform puja to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi by offering lighting diya with desi ghee, incense sticks, tulsi leaves, kheer, flowers. Devotees should chant various mantras associated with Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi and recite Vishnu Sahasranama to seek blessings.

4. Avoid eating tamasik food

It is recommended to eat only sattvik food and avoid tamasik food during the fast. This will bring bad luck into your life.

5. Meditation

You should perform meditation on this specific day because the day is extremely powerful to enhance spiritual growth.

6. Don’t cut your hair/nails

The day is considered sacred so one should not cut their hair and nails on this particular day.

7. Avoid negative thoughts

Purnima is all about attracting good fortune, wealth and it fulfills all your desired wishes so one should avoid thinking negative about anything.
