Middle East tensions: 13 flights bring stranded flyers from Gulf to Mumbai

MUMBAI: A total of 13 repatriation flights for Indian travellers stranded in the Gulf landed at Mumbai airport on Friday from Fujairah and Dubai. These included services operated by SpiceJet, Emirates, Air India Express and FlyDubai, with arrivals beginning at 1.00am and continuing in the day till 5.50pm. SpiceJet operated seven flights from Fujairah and Dubai, while Emirates operated four flights from Dubai. Air India Express had one flight from Dubai, and FlyDubai had one service from Dubai. Meanwhile, flight disruptions continued at Mumbai airport on Friday, with 73 air traffic movements, a landing or take off, cancelled. This included 34 arrivals and 39 departures. The earlier flood of appeals from Mumbaikars stranded in West Asia on social media slowed down to a trickle. On Friday, one Shivam Sharma addressed PM Modi saying, “Due to the current West Asia war situation, my father is stranded in Dubai along with many other Indians. Families in India are very worried. (I) Kindly request urgent support and safe evacuation for Indians stuck there.” Supriya Nale and Swapnil Nale from Daund, Pune, remained stuck in Abu Dhabi. A family member said, “In these circumstances, my niece and many other Indians who are currently in Iran, Abu Dhabi and Dubai are stranded. All of them are under severe mental stress due to the war situation.”
