Explosive negligence exposed: LPG distributor arrested after devastating explosion; Nine police officers suspended for failing to prevent illegal cylinder stocking

Daltonganj: The police on Tuesday arrested Ajay Kumar Sah, the owner of the LPG distribution agency whose stockyard was rocked by an explosion on Sunday.The 47-year-old distributor of the Kutmu Indane gas agency was booked under sections of the BNS and the Essential Commodities Act, said Jyoti Lal Rajwar, the officer-in-charge of Town police station. The police on Tuesday said it also traced the 43 cylinders (including 10 commercial ones), which were stored in the stockyard but went missing on Monday, from various locations.

Notably, on Sunday (March 15), a huge explosion and fire had broken out of the basement room of the building in Bairya More in Daltonganj where Sah had illegally stocked LPG cylinders. Four persons were injured in the incident. Nine cops were suspended for dereliction of duty on Monday when it was found out that out of the 61 cylinders at the time of the blast in the basement, 43 went missing on Monday morning.“We recovered 26 cylinders in the Bairya More Bazar Samiti shed, 10 from a four-wheeler in the same area and other seven were brought to the police station late evening of March 15 post explosion. All 61 cylinders will be exhibits in the court of law,” Rajwar said. Police sources said that it was Sah who had removed the cylinders.On Sah, a police source said, “He committed many offences. First, he stocked cylinders illegally. Then, he tried to obliterate the evidence by shifting them. He also tried to mislead the police.”
