Jasprit Bumrah’s unwanted hat-trick: First time in 8 years, just fourth ever

For Bumrah, this unwanted hat-trick of going wicketless for three matches in a row was in fact the first time in nearly 8 years and only the fourth time in his entire T20 career.

Every bowler, barring Hardik Pandya went for over 10 runs per over, with Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult conceding 22 runs each in their solitary overs. Bumrah, after conceding 14 runs in his 1st over, gave away 18 runs in his next two, while Shardul Thakur leaked 36 in his 2 and the impact sub Allah Ghazanfar was taken for 21 runs in his 2. Pandya returned a respectable figures of 2-0-17-0. And amid this mayhem, Bumrah returned wicketless for the third consecutive match. A rarity in Bumrah’s illustrious T20 career. For Bumrah, this unwanted hat-trick of going wicketless for three matches in a row was in fact the first time in nearly 8 years and only the fourth time in his entire T20 career. Bumrah has been the go to bowler for MI in the IPL and the Indian team in the T20Is with 345 wickets in 273 matches with an economy of 6.92. That is approximately 1.26 wickets per match.The last time the MI ace bowler went wicketless in three consecutive IPL games was in the 2016 season, when he returned 4-0-35-0, 4-0-28-0, 2-0-13-0 vs SRH, RCB and KXIP, respectively. The other instances, apart from this latest 2026 season, was in 2017/18 in T20Is and before that in 2014 IPL season.
