The Medical Department of Metro Railway, Kolkata marked World Kidney Day with an awareness programme at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital on Thursday. This year’s theme, “Kidney Health for All,” underscored the importance of preventive care and early detection. An awareness seminar was organised as part of the observance. Dr. A. K. Prasad, ACMS (H&FW), highlighted key risk factors associated with kidney diseases, including physical inactivity, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, hypertension, tobacco use, high sodium intake, obesity and unhealthy lifestyle practices. He also shared simple yet effective measures to maintain kidney health, such as balanced nutrition, regular exercise, avoiding smoking, weight management, and controlling blood pressure and diabetes. Dr. Gopa Majumder, PCMO, emphasised the need to build greater awareness and adopt preventive strategies to ensure better kidney health outcomes. Around 40 railway beneficiaries attended the session and gained practical insights into maintaining healthy kidneys. The initiative reflects Metro Railway’s continued focus on employee and beneficiary well-being through preventive healthcare awareness.
