Silchar: A male MBA student of the National Institute of Technology Silchar entered the girls’ hostel on the campus naked on Friday night, bringing to the fore a serious security breach at the institute. The incident triggered panic among boarders and raised concerns over campus safety. The student reportedly bypassed security checks and gained access to the restricted hostel premises late at night. He was seen moving through corridors and common areas in an “inappropriate state” and allegedly shouting threats, prompting students to raise an alarm, sources said. The situation quickly escalated, with hostel residents scrambling for safety before security personnel intervened and escorted the student out of the building. No physical injuries were reported, but students said the episode left many shaken.Confirming the incident, NIT Silchar director Prof. Dilip Kumar Baidya said an internal inquiry has been initiated to ascertain how the breach occurred despite recent changes in campus security protocols. “We are working on it and I cannot comment further at this stage. We have recently changed the security system and a lot of changes are happening. How our security missed it, that is our concern,” Baidya told the media. He added that the student appeared to be in an unstable condition. “Looks like he was intoxicated or having a psychotic problem,” he said. The institute has temporarily removed the student from the campus and summoned his parents. Authorities said he has been sent home pending the outcome of the inquiry. The administration has also ordered a comprehensive audit of security arrangements across all hostel gates to identify lapses and prevent recurrence. The incident has sparked outrage among students, who have demanded stricter access control and accountability from the private security agency deployed on campus.
