The wave of TV show cancellations has been big in 2026. Certainly, fans may be sad to see some of their favorite shows end, and it’s because of the ever-increasing competition.This year, many prominent shows got cancelled, while some shows were announced to be ending this year, from various streaming services as well as OTT platforms. Here’s a look at the complete list:
‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot’
Sarah Michelle Gellar announced that the ‘Buffy reboot’ had been canceled by Hulu when an executive decided not to move forward with it.The show began as a 1992 film written by Joss Whedon before debuting as a TV series starring Sarah, now 48, in 1997. The story was set to continue with a new chapter in the Buffyverse, written by Nora and Lila Zuckerman and directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao.
‘Talamasca: The Secret Order’
After the six-episode first season of Anne Rice’s ‘Talamasca’ debuted in 2025, the show has been cancelled.The show focused on a secretive society called the Talamasca, comprised of the men and women responsible for tracking and containing the witches, vampires, and other creatures scattered around the globe.
‘Access Hollywood & Access Live’
The long-running entertainment news show ‘Access Hollywood’ after 30 years on the air. ‘Access Live’ has also been cancelled.Access will continue airing new episodes through September 2026.
‘Watson’
‘Watson’ is canceled after two seasons. Season 2 is currently airing and will have its series finale in May.The show is set just a few months after the death of the titular character’s friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty. The show focuses on Dr. John Watson who resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders.
‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’
There will be no third season for ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.’ Season 1 debuted earlier this year and season two has been filmed, but there’s no release date at this time.The show introduced viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
‘DMV’
The comedy series was cancelled after only one season. The show starred Harriet Dyer, Tim Meadows, Tony Cavalero, Molly Kearney, Alex Tarrant and Gigi Zumbado. The comedy series debuted in the Fall, and will air its finale in May.
‘Palm Royale’
Kristen Wiig‘s Palm Royale has been canceled after season 2.As per Deadline, the season two finale will now serve as the series finale. The series was described as “a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society. As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, Palm Royale asks the same question that still baffles us today: ‘How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?’”
