Sankashti Chaturthi is the most significant day, when devotees worship Lord Ganesha and show their gratitude to Ganpati Bappa. The day holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. Devotees offer their sincere prayers as the day is purely dedicated to honor Ganpati ji. Chaturthi is associated with Lord Ganesha. According to Hindu Panchang, Vikata Sankashti fast will be observed on Chaturthi tithi of krishna paksha in the month of Chaitra. As per Gregorian Calendar, Sankashti Chaturthi will fall on the fourth day of the dark fortnight i.e., on April 5, 2026.

Sankashti Chaturthi is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and devotees offer prayers to Ganpati and seek his blessings. This day has a great religious and spiritual significance. Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shva and Goddess Parvati and known as the first worshipped God and people call him Pratham Pujya. Without worshipping Lord Ganesha, no auspicious events can be performed. Ganesh ji is known to be remover of all obstacles and devotees who observe fast on this sacred day, get rid of all the sufferings and obstacles from their life. Devotees receive the divine blessings of the Lord and get blessed with happiness, prosperity and desired fulfillments. In the month of April, Vikata Sankashti will fall on Chaturthi tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra. Vikat means horrendous and Sankashti means to get rid of all kinds of obstacles. Sankashti is mainly observed in Maharashtra and people observe fast with devotion. Childless couple are advised to observe this fast for the wish fulfillments.

Vikata Sankashti Chaturthi 2026: Puja Rituals

1. Devotees wake up early in the morning on the day of fast. 2. They should take a bath and take sankalp before starting the fast. 3. Take a wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Ganesha. 4. Light a diya with desi ghee and incense sticks. 5. Invoke the idol by chanting Ganesh mantras. 6. Adorn the idol with yellow flowers, apply haldi tilak, offer modaks or boondi ladddoos.7. Don’t forget to offer durva grass and bhog prasad (semolina halwa, kheer and poori)8. Recite the vrat katha and chant the below mentioned aarti“Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Dev” or Shendur Laal Chadhaavo”9. After completing all the puja rituals, devotees should distribute the bhog prasad among family members and spend the day chanting Lord Ganesh mantras. 10. In the evening, they can offer water to Moon God and then break their fast.
